Scriptation has always aimed for sustainability through innovation, with our commitment to pledging paperless and spreading the word for how we can help productions use less of the hard stuff – paper. We’re often asked how we can measure our user’s impact beyond simply cancelling those trips to the copy room, which is why every Earth Day we like to show you exactly what we’re saving.

While we never have access to individual user data, we do monitor overall metrics so that we’ve been able to calculate the collective environmental impact over the previous year. Between April 1, 2025 and March 31, 2026, Scriptation users have saved over 47,960,291 sheets of paper which is equivalent to saving over 3,356,000 pounds of CO2 from entering the atmosphere and conserving 5.1 million gallons of water! That’s like removing 500 gas cars from the road – as if you took around 50 writers’ rooms off the traffic grid! Great job, #ScriptationNation!

This adds to the over 42 million sheets of paper Scriptation users have saved since we started calculating in Earth Month 2024. Want to play along? That’s why we created the Scriptation Live Paper Savings Counter to count every page Scriptation saves from printing. As of April 1st, it’s reset to start tracking our savings through March 31st, 2027.

Now you’re asking, how did we get these numbers that you’re seeing on your report?

Scriptation introduced the Impact Report in 2024 with an update that logs some anonymous usage data. Think of it like a little ticker within Scriptation that tallies how much paper you are saving with every document.

It’s important to note: this information is only stored locally (on your unique device) and cannot be accessed by anyone but you (not even by us here at Scriptation!).

To calculate your impact, Scriptation started tallying:

• The amount of time spent with Scriptation open as your active app (This does not include time spent with Scriptation in the “background” on iPad or iPhone, but will include all time Scriptation is open on Mac)
• The number of note transfers that you’ve completed
• The number of pages in each unique document imported into Scriptation or downloaded from a cloud provider

And again, because this data is not attached to anything identifiable, if you use Scriptation across multiple devices you’ll only be seeing the numbers relevant to your time in the app on that specific device.

To calculate your overall impact, you’ll have to do a little math (sorry!) and add up the numbers across each of your devices.

With this data, Scriptation utilizes the Environmental Paper Network‘s calculations to translate your time in Scriptation into real, sustainable savings.

One example: a ream of paper is 500 pages. According to the Environmental Paper Network’s Paper Calculator, those 500 pages are equivalent to:

• 44.9 pounds of CO2
• 53.5 gallons of water
• 2.9 pounds of waste

Scriptation then used the following calculations per sheet of paper to estimate each type of impact:

• 1 sheet of paper = .0898 lbs of CO2
• 1 sheet of paper = .107 gals of water
• 1 sheet of paper = .0058 lbs of waste

We then multiply your total number of pages opened in Scriptation by the numbers above to reach your environmental savings!
