Scriptation Rewind: 2024

Scriptation Rewind: 2024

2024 saw it all – the Eras Tour came to an end, the Celtics hung another banner, and Hugh Jackman finally wore the classic Wolverine yellows. That was basically it, right? Not if you’re Scriptation! This has been, without a doubt, the biggest year in Scriptation’s history. From adding new partners, to new team members, to new, much-anticipated app features, the theme of this year has been growth.

We are once again eternally grateful to our users across production sets, writers’ rooms, in auditions and on stages for all of their feedback, support, and patronage. So let’s take a look back at the year that was with Scriptation Rewind: 2024!

We launched our educational partnership, SCRIPTATION ON CAMPUS, in 2024 and we’ve already partnered with dozens of accredited colleges and universities across the globe! Getting the next generation of writers and crew to pledge paperless and learn Scriptation while honing their craft not only saves vital environmental resources today – but ensures those new voices will enter the work force already knowing how to maximize their workflow.

Being an On Campus partner comes with personalized training, exclusive webinars, and plenty of discounts… the biggest of all being a free Industry Pro subscription for students and faculty! Totally free! No strings or promissory notes required!

2. Scriptation 5.0 introduces REHEARSE

Scriptation Rehearse launched in October, taking our app from a great place to read and annotate scripts to one of the best places for actors to Read, Rehearse, and Record them. The introduction of more actor-friendly features like customizable voices for your read through (with accents!) to getting to assign which elements of the script are read aloud (see ya later, over-flowery stage direction) help Version 5.0 do for cast what 1.0 did for crew.

If you haven’t taken a tour yet, do yourself a favor and feast your eyes on all the fabulous features.

3. Scriptation 5.0 Launch Party

Writers, Production, and Actors gather for Scriptation 5.0

The release of our 5.0 (and Rehearse) called for another first — a Launch Party! October 22nd saw Scriptation users, fans, and staff gathered at EP & LP in West Hollywood to celebrate the newest offering from everyone’s favorite script annotation app. Good times were had, great conversations conducted, and a sentiment shared by all — “Let’s do this again SOON!”

Keep an eye out for Scriptation meet ups, events, and Thirsty Thursdays happening in your area in 2025!

4. Scriptation Social Media (RE)LAUNCH

Follow Scripation on Social for all the latest updates!

There’s never been more places shouting, “Follow us on (insert social media venue you’ve never heard of)!” than today, which is why Scriptation is taking strides to make sure our social output stands on its own. You can laugh with us over production memes on Instagram (now with over 15K followers!), learn from our webinars (and shorts!) on Youtube, or have a fun mix of both on our newly launched TikTok… and if you’re not following the Scriptation TikTok, are you really even a member of #ScriptationNation?

We also joined Threads and Bluesky, while maintaining our X page and even the Facebook… or is it just “Facebook” again? You may also find us redditing on Reddit — type our name, even once, and we just might appear to answer, challenge, or laugh at the topic discussion.

While you can like, follow, and/or subscribe to Scriptation on most social media outlets for content both educational and entertaining, the best feature is getting to interact with your fellow users. You can chat about what you’re working on, how you hack the app for your job or shoot, and – hopefully – projects you can collaborate on in the future.

Want to know what’s new with Scriptation? Follow us on Social(s)!

5. Partner Integrations!

Scriptation and Cinaspe integration

Did you know Scriptation has partnered with Cinaspe? Line Producers, ADs, and UPMs sure did, as Scriptation’s Tagging feature + Cinaspe’s breakdown software = a match made in Hollywood Heaven (also, other centers of production).

Get a full breakdown of how to blend these two production apps with this user guide.

We’re also working with Shot Lister on a collaboration for 2025! What better way for crew members to annotate their shooting plan than by having a shot list and script in the same digital document — coming soon!

Look for more fun integrations to come as Scriptation continues to find innovative ways to streamline your prep and set life even more in 2025.

6. Podcasts Partners!

We continued to partner with Pete Chatmon on his excellent podcast “Let’s Shoot With Pete Chatmon“, where the vet of shows ranging from
High Potential to black-ish takes you inside the world of directing TV, with informative insight into what it takes to start — and maintain — a career behind the monitors of video village. Pete has some of the greatest podcast gets you could imagine, from Ava DuVernay to Charlie Day, and his Director Roundtables are like portable film school (depending on how well you charge your air-pods).

We also love to sponsor “Screaming Into the Hollywood Abyss“, with irreverent hosts Noah Evslin and Dan Rutstein breaking down some of the great failures amongst their great guests. They say every athlete dies twice; well, how many times do writer/producers die then? Has to be in the dozens.

Check out their episode archive, conveniently broken into categories by failure- err, subject.

7. Scriptation Showcase

The Scriptation Showcase script competition saw some of our best entrees to date in it’s sixth year, with innovative, creative takes from writers on subjects new and old. Our esteemed winners for 2024 were:

8. Scriptation Impact Report

Help for Writers, Production, and Actors alike.

Calculate just HOW MUCH you’re saving by using Scriptation with your Scriptation Impact Report. Thanks to a nifty in-app tracker, users can tally just how many sheets of paper they’re saving each year! We also help you calculate how many pounds of waste, gallons of water, and CO2 emissions your Scriptation use has saved.

In 2024, Scriptation saved the industry an estimated 25 million sheets of paper. Those savings add up to…

2,245,000 lbs of CO2 – That’s like removing 244 gas-powered cars from the commute!

2,675,000 gallons of water – Enough water for 157,353 showers!

145,000 lbs of waste – That’s over 72 tons – the size of an Abrams Tank!

Great work, #ScriptationNation! You can check your stats by following the instructions listed here.

Just do us a favor… don’t print them out, OK?

9. Scriptation Dev Land!

We were told by Laura Noxon, our unbelievable Director of Product Development, that this year Scriptation resolved 667 Jira tasks (!). Those of us NOT in Dev Land were told this was good. We believe her.

We don’t need to be told that our 16 (!!) app updates released in 2024 wasn’t just good — that’s great. We’re squashing the bugs and updating features to keep your work flowing.

We also launched Scriptation on Canny, allowing users to give helpful feedback and suggestions — as well as upvote ones other users have suggested (so, you know, we have an idea what’s popular). View the public roadmap for an idea of what features and updates are on tap for our next exciting releases.

For those easier-to-handle bugs and blips, here’s a reminder to swing by the Scriptation Help Desk. Our unstoppable H.D. team completed 1,598 (!!!) support conversations this year alone (likely an even 1600 by the time you read this), as our user experience remains our top priority for 2025.

Need Scriptation help? There’s a desk for that.

10. Festivals, Conventions & Appearances (Oh My!)

Production, writers, and actors can all learn about sustainability with Scriptation

This year? We’ve been everywhere. South By Southwest in March. NAB in April. Cine Gear Expo in early June, and of course… the Hollywood Climate Summit June 25th – 28th.

We also had representatives from Scriptation give great panel: Scriptation representatives appeared on panels for the GREENTECH Film Festival, Hennessy Studios, DGA Digital Day, the WGA Asian-American Writers Peer Group, and the Simi Valley Film Festival (among many others).

We love getting to bring Scriptation to users both new and experienced. We also get to talk tech with friends and break bread with buddies, allowing for the greater fellowship the entertainment industry can grant its members when they can share experiences and war stories.

Plus, we gave away some sweet Scriptation hats. Possibly coming to a swag store near you in 2025?

11. What’s Next?!

Annotate Scripts, Transfer Notes, Create Layers

Adding up all of our accomplishments and happenings, it’s no doubt 2024 will go down as the greatest year of Scriptation – until 2025. We’re talking more than just merch and bug fixes, folks. There are some much-anticipated app updates coming, events and opportunities soon to be finalized, and all sorts of fun announcements but a few calendar clicks away.

Look for us to start at the beginning, as the theme of our January is getting back to basics with Scriptation 101. We’ll be hosting a *FREE* webinar mid-January for Scriptation users both experienced and brand-new, focusing on how you can use the app to maximize your workflow and spark creativity. Look for registration info in the new year!

Keep an eye on our Notification Center for more Scriptation news, and we’ll see you in 2025!
