Our friends at Wrapal are now part of Set Scouter

The Toronto-based startup Set Scouter, an online peer-to-peer location scouting marketplace has acquired Los Angeles-based Wrapal in an effort to create the largest film locations database in North America.

Both companies were launched in 2012 and were the first peer-to-peer marketplaces of their kind that connected filmmakers to film locations in their respective countries of Canada and the United States. In the seven years since, both startups became known as the ‘airbnb of film locations’ – albeit in different markets; with Set Scouter targeting Canada and secondary American film markets such as New York, Chicago, and Miami, while Wrapal focused on the heartland of the film industry, Los Angeles along with the greater Southern California region.

“As both companies grew and evolved, a clash was inevitable”, Set Scouter, CEO Alex Kolodkin surmised, “but instead of competing, it was wiser to combine Wrapal’s knowledge base, connections and partnerships with our technological prowess to give our clients the very best possible experience on a single platform.”

“This is a landmark moment in location scouting,” said Scriptation founder and CEO, Steven Vitolo. “By expanding its inventory to include Wrapal’s unrivaled database of west coast locations, SetScouter is poised to continue disrupting an industry that so badly needs it. With so many properties now available on one platform, the real winners are filmmakers.”

Since the merger, filmmakers can search for and book an inventory of tens of thousands of film locations in major throughout North America while property owners can list their spaces for free knowing that thousands of top brands, music producers, and film productions might want to rent their space for filming.

The newly consolidated company will offer the same features users have come to expect from both sides.

“Consumers fear consolidation because it means compromise” Wrapal CEO Brian L. Tan “BLT” observed, “however in this case, it actually means more choices – and a much more streamlined and effective locations scouting process. Both platforms were built by filmmakers for filmmakers. Now that we’ve joined forces, I’m looking forward to revolutionizing the entertainment industry together.”
